  Overview

Project Read For HOPE™, The Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation's Project Read for HOPE™ and Project Read for HOPE Celebrity Read Aloud Tour™ are a National Initiative of the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation (SSHF), was established to promote reading and literacy among all children. Project Read for HOPE™ program challenges children in elementary, middle and high school to take time out to read while encouraging families and adults to read regularly with young children.

In addition Project Read for HOPE™ provides resources and grants necessary to school districts and various nonprofit organizations that support programs focused on promoting literacy to children.

Project Read For HOPE

Since the inception of Project Read for HOPE™ in 2003 the Initiative has donated approximately 70,000 Brand New Children books valued at over $500,000 to children and schools, in order to promote a love for reading to all children.

Our Project Read for HOPE Celebrity Read Aloud Tour™ (a trade mark program) with the support of program Ambassador CA State Assemblyman Curren Price, program Community Ambassador Councilman Ralph Franklin, and program sponsors 102.3 FM KJLH Radio, The City of Inglewood, City of Inglewood Public Library, Random House, MC Studios, Nestle, Murad, and the LA Clippers, donated thousands of brand new books to students in Compton, LA and Inglewood Unified School Districts as well as children in Sacramento CA, New York, Denver CO, and Florida to name a few. This year alone we have donated at least 45,000 brand new books valued at over $300,000.00 to students. Currently we have approximately 150,000 brand new books in our inventory valued at over $1.2 million that will all be donated to children. We thank LAX Hyundai and our new Celebrity Ambassador Nickelodeon's Daniel Curtis Lee for their support.

Each week our Project Read for HOPE Celebrity Read Aloud Tour™ visits a new school and host Reading Rallies for approximately 500 to 1000 students and private Read Aloud Sessions with pre-selected groups of 60 to 120 students in K-5th grade from Los Angeles, Inglewood, Lennox and Compton Unified School Districts Schools as well as schools all across the country. Read Aloud Sessions are private reading sessions with special Readers who spend at least an hour with the students, reading aloud a short story, answering questions, posing for photographs and signing autographs for everyone. Celebrity guest readers have included World Boxing Champion Lalia Ali, actress Nia Long, actress Victoria Rowell, actor Omar Gooding, actress Eva Mendes, Fox 11's Nischelle Turner, NFL Players Curtis Conway and Chicago Bears Lance Briggs, actor Wesley Jonathan, actor Kevin Hart, actor Brian White, Nickelodeon's Daniel Curtis Lee, actress Ali Landry, actress Regina Hall, and director F. Gary Gray, to name a few, with books donated by the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation. Each  student at the school receives a brand new book.

  Holiday Children's Book Drive

Project Read for HOPE™ Annual Holiday Book Drive in conjunction with the City of Inglewood and Project Read for HOPE Ambassador Councilman Curren Price, is a signature event of the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation (SSHF) and an Official City of Inglewood event established to promote reading to children.

Many organizations conduct Toy Drives but through our commitment to promoting reading to children during the holiday season we give the gift of reading! Project Read for HOPE(TM) Holiday Book Drive with the help of Councilman Curren Price and the City of Inglewood, will allow SSHF to continue this effort putting brand new books in children's hands during the Holiday Season, while bringing the community, corporate sponsors, and Special Celebrities together in an unforgettable display to promote reading to our children.

The goal of the Stephanie Starks HOPE Foundation's (SSHF) Project Read for HOPE™ Holiday Book Drive is to donate at least 10,000 new reading books, providing greater access to books to children, while motivating them to read outside of the class room and encouraging a life love of reading.

All books collected will be distributed to children in Inglewood School District, Compton Unified School District, Los Angeles Unified School District, as well as to children in Denver Colorado, New York and internationally to children in Jamaica.
